The Trostle Barn
Original plein air pastel
Well known for the hole left by an artillery shell, which can be seen in the brick portion of the building (below the diamond patterns), the Trostle Barn sits on property that was famously photographed in the aftermath of the Battle of Gettysburg. It was a particularly telling example of the carnage of war. Today it is a peaceful stop on the auto tour.
For sale $350
Also available as a fine art reproduction, framed or unframed, on Epson Enhanced Mat.

Girl Pulling Cart
Original studio pastel, 2014
Based on a 2013 photo I took during a visit to Mnt. Vernon, the magnificent home of Pres. George Washington. This young lady was pulling her cart, presumably back to where ever it is stored, at the end of a long, hot autumn day. She looked wonderfully authentic and I knew the photo would result in a fun project.

Abandoned
Original plein air pastel, GNMP, 2013
The title comes from the fact that this scene is part of the golf course of the old Gettysburg Country Club. No one uses it anymore, and very few visitors to the battlefield ever see this area. It is now part of the Gettysburg National Military Park. As the Park works to return the battlefield to its 1863 appearance, it is not likely this man-made lake will remain.
Canada geese, as shown, as well as great blue heron, ducks and other water fowl enjoy the site, for now.
